London 2012 Olympic logo sells our talent short

Like most people in the UK, I've heard a lot said about the new logo for the Olympics to be hosted in London in 2012 . Most of the comments seem to be negative, and I'm going to chip in and tell you why I agree. You only need to look at the alternatives that BBC readers submitted to see how much better a logo we could have. Compared with them, in my view the official logo isn't clever, exciting, or imaginative. Only the negative publicity it has gained so far will make it relatively recognisable. It doesn't typify London, or the United Kingdom. It doesn't have the dynamic that would equate to something sporting. It doesn't even do the "2012" figures properly. I'm pretty sure a four year old could do something better. The official logo seems like one of those typical 'designed by commitee' things. In this case my guess is that someone was told to come up with something that wouldn't offend anyone. But it has - a lot of people with some sort of interest in the Olympics, and even more importantly a lot of UK designers who could have been the ones paid to do it better.
